VICTORIAN COLOURS & EMBLEM (1929)

Rugby Union Captain G.S. Sturtridge and Vice Captain C. McNeilage, New South Wales, ca. 1920 [picture].

Historic Victorian rugby photograph from National Library of Australia collection showing G.S.Sturtridge (capt) & C.McNeilage (v/capt) – Victorian Rugby team’s tour of NSW 1929.

In 1928 some of the money raised from gate-money collected at Melbourne club games was spent on new State jerseys.

It was decided the jersey would be of Navy Blue with a sprig of Wattle blossom in gold on the left breast, guarded by a White V.
